Antique Roadshow Birthday Skit for the 50th Birthday

A couple of years ago, my sister and I did a skit for my best friend's 50th birthday.   He had no idea that he had entered the Antique Roadshow Zone.  He had a blast, and participated as the skit went along, adding funny comments on the way.  This is a great idea to take and personalize for any old timer’s birthday.

FYI: quicker than Jack Robinson is an actual old time saying meaning of course-fast!

Antique Roadshow Over The Hill Birthday Skit

Paula bringing in the Birthday boy….

Appraiser:  Be careful.  It looks frail.  You might chip it or break it’s hip.  Hi, I’m Lorraine Madison, a new addition to the Antique Roadshow, specializing in antique oddities.  And this is Paula from Terre Haute, Indiana.  Do you know what you have brought in today, Paula?

Paula:  I have no clue, but if you specialize in antique oddities, I'm sure I'm in the right place!

 Appraiser:  Very true.  How exactly did you come in possession of this oddity?

Paula:  It seems like around 20 years ago, my sister asked if I could give it a ride home, and it’s been collecting dust ever since.

Appraiser:  Do you have any idea how old it is?

Paula:  No, but my guess would be 100 or 200 years old????

Appraiser:  Well, with all the moaning and groaning it made when it was moving up here, I can see how you would think that.  But you can actually count it’s age by the large wrinkles under the eyes, just like you would a tree with it’s rings.  (Counting Wrinkles) 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years old!  Just as I suspected.

Appraiser:  What you have here is a Jack Robinson.  It got it’s name from the quickness it came and went in the stores.  Let’s put it this way, the Edsel, the Pet Rock, and plastic cat poop had more appeal to the American public.  It was pulled faster from the shelves by the manufacture quicker than you can say Jack Robinson.  There was always a rumor that one actually sold.

Paula:  So it’s a rarity, that must make it valuable?

Appraiser:  Well it does have quite a lot of condition problems.  Believe it or not, at one time it did  have a full head of red hair!

Paula: (looking stunned) Noooooooo!

Appraiser:  Yes, (brings out a magnifying glass, examines top of bald head, to show a remaining red hair or two)  If you look carefully… no I guess I was mistaken.  (Picks dirt off head, that appraiser had thought was a red hair.)   And it looks like it could use a professional cleaning. Blowing (imaginary) dust off of scalp. Oh my.

Paula:  What do you suggest as an insurance value?

Appraiser:  Do you really think you could get anyone to insure a 50 year old Jack Robinson?  And if you could, imagine how high the insurance premiums would be?

Paula:  How true!  Is there any auction value?

Appraiser:  Well he is a pretty good guitarist.  You probably will have to massage the pre-arthritic claw first and maybe get some new strings for the guitar, but it all should work.  And if you step back and squint (both appraiser and Paula stepping back and squinting).  Maybe a little further back. (both stepping back again).  Try covering one eye and squint harder with the other (both doing).  There, he still is quite handsome!  (With one hand over one eye, standing back far, and squinting with the other eye, both Paula and appraiser nod their head in agreement).  (Then going back over to the Jack Robinson).

Appraiser: Taking it all in consideration, I  would have to put an auction value of priceless.

It was announced earlier this week that Rosie O’Donnell was rejoining The View.  This was my cue to dust off an old song parody I made up years ago when she had her talk show. I was a fan of her show where she often talked of Ring Dings & musicals.  One night this came to me, a song parody of Sandra Dee from Grease The Movie.

 Christmas Story Movie Craft Game 

A Christmas Story The Movie Craft & Quotes

There are only two kinds of people in this world:  those who like The Movie, “A Christmas Story” and those who don’t.

Well my brother falls into the latter group and has to suffer every year as our family watches and discuss the movie to obsession.    Last year, I made him a “Christmas Story-The Movie” shooting gallery with Nerf pellet guns included.  It got a lot of use!

Christmas Story Movie Craft Game

The box is an empty ornament display box I found at Wal-Mart.

I got images off the computer of Christmas Story characters and assigned a value to them in my PrintMaster program.  Cut them out and laminated them to make them shining, then glued green card stock to back of the pictures to make them more sturdy. 

I hot glued little rings which I picked up in the jewelry department of a local craft store to the backs of the photos. Dug grooves in the box and put the ringed photos on two dow rods.  Then placed the dow rods into the grooves.  Easy-peasy craft!

Main Ingredients to Spud-Buds

-Best Buds--Your best friend to cook, drink and share memories with. "It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

-Best Spuds--4 Already baked potatoes.  Sliced long ways, with most of the potato scooped out.  Leave approx. ¼” of potato next to skin.  You can use the potato scooped out for future potato patties.

Mixture Ingredients: 

Friendship isn't a big thing-it’s a million little things.  So true & true of our dish, as well. Though the following are all ingredients used in small amounts, they can be combined to make a power punch of flavor!

Mix together:  2 1/2 Tbsps vegetable oil, 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese,
1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp garlic powder & a dash of pepper

The Endgame Ingredients: 

(Put on during the last 2 minutes of cooking)

4 Slices of cooked & chopped bacon

2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese

1/3 cup of green onions

*Brush the mixture (see above) all over the hollowed out potatoes (also above)

*Place upside down on greased baking sheet

*Bake at 450 for about 10 minutes:
-This is a good time to make up a top 10 list with your bestie about friendship. Use your past experience.  Example:  10. A real friend will go with you to White Castle at 2:00 am without complaint or question….Make sure you end your top ten list with this as #1:  A homey will always be up to an 8 minute dance party! (see below)

*Turn over potato (right side up)
-A true friend is one who thinks you are a good potato even if you are half-baked.

*Bake for another 8 minutes
-Dance Party!!!!

For Game you will need:

Paper, pen, scraps of paper and a writing surface for each guest

Plastic cups

A picture

A master list

A master list is a list of 8 -10 phrases, names, words, etc. that all participants will use to create their story.

Creating a master list:  Pin up a photo and ask questions about the photo.  Here is one for a sample:

Ask a question and have each guest put their answer in a plastic cup.  Ask the next question, put answers in a different cup. Do not reveal the responses until 8 - 10 questions have been answered.  Guest can also help you come up with questions.

Sample questions (Using above picture):

What is my name?

What do I do for a living?

What line do I use as a pick-up line in a bar?

What’s my nickname?

What will it say on my tombstone?

What is my favorite food? Book? Quote? 

Guest questions? Etc?

Only after all questions are done, then read all the answers to what is my name?  How fun and creative did your guests get?  After you read all responses, put the names back in the cup and randomly select one.  Everyone will put the name picked on their master list.  Then read all the answers to the question, “What do I do for a living?”  Then put answers back in cup and randomly pick one for master list.  Repeat until you get full master list.

Sample Master List (still using above Gator picture) for Writer's Block - Creative Writing Game:
(only write answers not what is in parenthesis)

Plumber’s assistant (occupation)

Have rose will travel (pick-up line)

Now each person (using the same master list) tries to make up a story using all words or phrases on list.  Only rule:  Can not make up a story about the picture.

Here are some ideas, using our example master list. Note stories can not be about alligators:

Idea:  A story about a person or person in the room:

Yes, it was Paula’s 14th blind date in a row, but she was feeling pretty luck as she sprayed on her Have Rose Will Travel perfume all over her built like a plumber’s assistance body.  She quoted her favorite affirmation as she stared in the mirror:  Nobody believes I was a homely child.  Suddenly, the door bell rang..

Idea: Write an Famous person’s autobiography:

Call me, Abraham Big Teeth-Little Feet Lincoln as that is my true, full name.  I was named after my great grand-pappy, a smooth talking plumber’s assistance, who four score and seven years ago went a calling on my great grandma, Milly-Vinny-Lee, a mime singer/dancer.  He….

Idea:  A poem:

Ode to a Jeno’s Pizza Roll

Vinny-Vinny is my name

And eating Jeno’s Pizza Rolls is my game
